Institute - "Distort Yourself"
Alex Orren Hallmark

"I can't hold you, I can't hold you
I can't hold you, I can't hold you"

That's exactly right Gavin. You can't hold onto rock anymore like you used to. Those lyrics are from "Bullet Proof Skin," the new single from Gavin Rossdale's new group, Institute. Incase you don't remember your music history, Gavin was the lead singer of the popular British band known as Bush. That band had over 7 top ten hits and released 4 albums. Unfortunately, the band began to decline in the latter of the album releases and eventually broke up. Institute is Gavin's comeback band but only two of the songs on the entire album have the sweet, metallic vibe that has become his trademark.

Being in the shadow of wife, Gwen Stefani seesm to have made Gavin's lyrics and music very simplistic. With a lone two chord riff beginning nearly every song, even a novist like myself can pick up a guitar and do cover songs of Institute. Many of the lyrics such as

" this boombox needs batteries.."

seems like a child helped him write these lyrics.

The two songs that are noteworthy, Ambulances & Bullet Proof Skin, have a new fresh style of music with some of the old classic Bush wrapped around it. So just download those songs, otherwise save your cash.

Orren's Rating: 3.5 "Only two songs keep a die-hard Bush fan like myself content with listening to this album."
